A Reddit user compared ChatGPT's Work mode and Codex mode for development on macOS: after switching to Codex, their Plus quota barely covered 2-3 tasks per 5-hour window, versus completing several with Work mode. Their tip: for local dev work, Work mode performs nearly the same as Codex while burning far less usage — explaining much of the quota drama.
