Ruff author Charlie Marsh: could a frontier model design TypeScript, not just rewrite it?
charliermarsh · x · 2026-10-07
Charlie Marsh, author of Ruff and uv, poses a sharp question: frontier models can trivially rewrite TypeScript, but could one design TypeScript — including all the details and judgment that made it great?
His own answer is grim:
- Functionally yes, because those details don't matter anymore
- We may never even know, since verifying it would require human judgment and iteration that will never happen again
