Terence Tao: AI could support the whole research pipeline, but the opposite is happening

Terence Tao commented on how AI tools are actually being used in mathematics: used responsibly, AI can support not just the initial generation of a solution but all the valuable follow-up activities that traditionally flow from it. At the current time, though, the opposite is often occurring—a critique of treating AI as an idea generator while neglecting the deeper downstream work of research.
