Herald OS goes open source: an agent-native OS where the AI is the interface, not an app
gekobraa · x · 2026-10-07
A developer open-sourced Herald OS, an "agent-native" operating system built around Nous Research's Hermes Agent. Instead of being another app, the agent sits at the OS layer: it can open and use apps, find and organize files, remember context, run routines, watch your screen, and build software while you chat — with user approval before any system change.
Native OS commands don't burn model tokens; Hermes is only invoked for reasoning and tasks. Supports Linux (Arch/Nix/Fedora, Hyprland/niri) and macOS, MIT-licensed, installable today.
