1064nm integrated transmitters: shorter wavelengths shrink lasers and modulators
jwt0625 · x · 2026-10-05
A discussion on datacenter optical interconnect wavelengths: InP light sources are painful, pushing arguments for 1µm lasers using GaAs and YDFA. The cited paper demonstrates fully integrated 1064nm transmitters with widely tunable GaAs lasers and >100-GHz thin-film LiNbO3 modulators; shorter wavelengths also shrink modulators. Hollow-core fiber will get cheaper, but silicon photonics won't fade easily.
