InP Shortage Drives Shift to 1μm Lasers and Hollow-Core Fiber in Optical Interconnects
Facing InP supply and fabrication bottlenecks, the industry is exploring 1μm-wavelength optical interconnects using GaAs lasers, YDFA amplifiers, and integrated 1064nm transmitters. Hollow-core fiber is expected to get cheaper and see wider use, though silicon photonics is unlikely to exit soon.
