Dev deletes 800k lines of unit tests, argues they lock in slop code in the AI era
rickasaurus · x · 2026-10-03
Developer shcallaway removed 800,000 lines of unit tests from a monorepo and laid out three hypotheses: unit tests lock in slop code by making it hard to change, they slow dev cycles by forcing agents to do more local work and lengthening CI, and they waste money through extra generated tokens and useless CI runs. Results to be reported soon — a provocative challenge to testing orthodoxy in AI-assisted development.
