OpenCode bug: Bash-less subagents all fail with bogus free-tier error
xsefirosus · ghdev · 2026-10-03
Issue #52880 on anomalyco/opencode reports that Bash-less subagent profiles (prompt-engineer, product-manager, technical-writer) fail at launch 5/5 with OpenCode's free tier can only be used from within OpenCode, while Bash-capable profiles succeed 6+/6+ under identical dispatch on version 1.18.33.
Community evidence across linked issues pins the trigger: #50627 found the request tools array missing bash is decisive — with byte-identical headers, 35 tools (with bash) succeed while 34 (without) hit FreeTierError; bash: ask works where bash: deny fails. In #49723, the built-in explore agent failed 8/8 while the general agent succeeded 3/3 on identical free models. No maintainer-stated cause or workaround exists yet; the mechanism is community-reported only.
