Open vs closed source no longer matters: every launch is a race against incumbents

gakonst argues that open vs closed source is irrelevant now: closed software gets reverse-engineered, suite features get rebuilt as plugins, and small models without proprietary data will be copied via blackbox fuzzing.
So every core product launch should be treated as an extreme countdown race before the incumbent with distribution eats you. Finding a corner of the stack that is defensible—and stays defensible—is extremely rare and valuable in this brutal environment.
