Marc Andreessen warns that the same "Safetyflation" dynamic seen in other policy areas is being applied to AI models — a new AI-doomer NGO complex arguing for its own formation and sustenance. He says it must not be allowed to take root: "it will be hard to end the bureaucracy once in place."
The quoted tweet draws an analogy to San Francisco's homelessness industry: pay NGOs per homeless person and the problem never gets solved — SF now spends over $1B/year (up 5x) while the homeless population has only grown.
