OpenAI and Anthropic hunt for 20-30 MW AI capacity in UK and Nordics as inference demand rises

Per CNBC, OpenAI and Anthropic are seeking smaller compute deployments across the UK and Nordics, with similar talks underway in the US. Anthropic has explored 20-30 MW deals in the UK and Nordic region, while OpenAI is looking at Nordic opportunities.

These smaller clusters complement the labs' much larger multi-hundred-MW and gigawatt projects, offering faster access to powered capacity. They're particularly suited for inference, which can be spread across multiple sites rather than concentrated in one tightly connected training facility.

As more compute shifts from training to serving models in production, JLL expects inference to overtake training as a share of data center capex.
