freecad-mcp: 2.2k-star MCP server lets Claude Desktop drive FreeCAD for CAD and FEM
tom_doerr · x · 2026-09-13
freecad-mcp is an open-source project (2.2k GitHub stars) that lets Claude Desktop and other MCP clients control FreeCAD directly:
- Capabilities: create and edit 3D models, run Python scripts, inspect documents, and perform FEM (finite element) analyses
- Demos: designing a flange, modeling a toy car, building parts from 2D drawings, agent integrations
- Architecture: two components — an addon running inside FreeCAD (with an RPC server) and an MCP server launched by the client
- Setup: requires FreeCAD plus uv/uvx; copy the addon into the FreeCAD addon directory and register the server in claudedesktopconfig.
