Copilot Code Review Can Now Approve Pull Requests, Counting Toward Merge Rules

mariorod1 · x · 2026-09-10

GitHub's changelog announces that Copilot code review now signals when a PR is ready to approve, and admins can authorize it to submit approvals that count toward required-approvals rules. Since 84% of a PR's open-to-merge lifecycle is spent waiting for approval, this could drastically cut review wait times. Approvals are off by default, configurable at enterprise/org/repo levels (including path restrictions), and dismissed when new commits land. Available in public preview for Copilot Pro, Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise plans.
