XPENG begins mass production of IRON humanoid robot with 80%+ automated automotive-style lines
francisybea · x · 2026-09-09
XPENG has officially started mass production of its IRON humanoid robot. The notable part is the manufacturing approach:
- Automotive-style production with over 80% automation in key steps
- AI, compute, robot body and manufacturing system all developed in-house
- More than 85% of IRON's supply chain overlaps with XPENG's EV business
As the author notes, impressive humanoid demos are common — reliably mass-producing them at scale is the much harder part, and XPENG is leveraging its carmaking playbook to do it.
