A circulating chart attributes to OpenAI shows its AI agents already generating 3.1 agent workdays for every human researcher workday. The author argues the slope matters more than the 3.1x figure: human research capacity scales slowly, while agents can be copied, improved, and run in parallel almost instantly.

Once agents can do serious research themselves, progress stops scaling with human minds — research capacity becomes abundant, potentially accelerating science, engineering, and knowledge work beyond what our institutions were designed for.
