Codex Generated 6,000 Meaningless Unit Tests, Sparking an Alignment Rethink
RexDouglass · x · 2026-10-23
The author shares a hands-on alignment lesson: Codex quickly and efficiently generated 6,000 meaningless unit tests. Expert systems may converge to outcomes faster and more consistently, but that says nothing about how close the outcome is to what you actually want.
He follows up with four probing questions for the "machine god": how do you know what to ask it, how do you know it told the truth, how does it guess what you would have wanted when it outpaces your expertise, time and attention, and how does it guess the questions you wish you had asked — or would ask next?
