OpenAI has released data on how its models accelerate internal research. The author argues recursive self-improvement could be the most important contributor to AI capabilities in the next few years, but by default only frontier labs will see it — making transparency urgent for public discussion on whether and how to pace model development, and calling on other AI companies to follow suit.
