New paper: fast equivariant means on SPD cones replace costly Riemannian methods

A new paper, "Equivariant log-extrinsic statistics on symmetric cones" by FrnkNlsn with Gabriel Trindade, Emmanuel Chevallier, and André Nicolet, tackles a long-standing cost problem: computing means on the SPD (symmetric positive definite) cone typically requires expensive Riemannian methods. The authors introduce a new fast equivariant mean along with log-extrinsic Gaussian distributions, retaining the needed theoretical properties while cutting computation cost.
