Runway CEO Cristóbal Valenzuela announced a $40 million commitment to Japan, now the company's third-largest market. In an interview, he outlined Runway's strategic evolution:
- World Models & Robotics: Video models trained at scale evolve from pixel generators into "world models" that encode how the world works. Runway is betting on using these models as the "brain" for robots, letting them learn by watching simulations.
- Japanese Market Penetration: Despite having no physical office or country manager, Runway has secured significant enterprise contracts in Japan.
- Agile Organization: Valenzuela noted that the company reorganizes every 2-3 months to keep pace with the rapid changes in AI.
