Amazon to Shut Down Mechanical Turk Next Month, Ending an Era

Amazon is officially shutting down Mechanical Turk (MTurk) next month. Having covered the platform for nearly a decade, the author notes that we wouldn't have the AI tools we do today without the low-paid, largely invisible labor of MTurkers. The shutdown marks the end of an era for crowdsourced work that underpinned much of early AI development.
