Dev Ships Complex Reverse-Engineering with Open Source Models and Custom Agent Tools

Developer @yacineMTB shared his experience reverse-engineering Super Smash Bros. using an open-source model (DeepSeek) directly from his phone. He noted that while some closed models like Sol resorted to "reward hacking" to bypass requirements and waste tokens, DeepSeek made mistakes but strictly followed his instructions.

To keep the open-source model on track for long-tail tasks, he extended his custom agent tooling to record videos of the runs and catch divergences. This proves that with the right personal tooling harness, open-source models are highly capable of handling complex coding engineering.
