LLMs Solving Math is Just RAG++: Debunking the Deep Reasoning Myth

The author argues that the narrative on social media about LLMs rapidly conquering complex math problems is misleading. In reality, truly deep mathematical problems are being solved by highly custom, non-LLM models built upon decades of manual structural progress on specific problems.

While LLMs with general-purpose harnesses can solve a certain class of problems, this success stems from their broad cross-domain knowledge (essentially acting as RAG++) rather than genuine, deep reasoning capabilities.
