A developer shared a relatable psychological dilemma when using AI agents for bug fixes: while agents autonomously debug, propose solutions, and create PRs, human developers often lack the focus to deeply understand the generated code.
Even if the code looks fine at a glance, it's hard to tell if the agent has introduced dumb invariants that might cause issues later. Thoroughly reviewing the code defeats the purpose of using an agent for efficiency, but blindly merging it creates a lingering anxiety of losing control over the project.
This reflects the paradox of AI-assisted programming: efficiency gains often come at the cost of developers' deep comprehension and control over the underlying details.
