Building Canopiq: A GeoAI Agent that Turns Natural Language into Environmental Reports
Conscious-Ant-5151 · reddit · 2026-08-01
To solve the high barrier of entry for writing Python scripts in Google Earth Engine (GEE), an indie developer open-sourced a GeoAI agent project named Canopiq.
- The Problem: While GEE has powerful satellite imagery, extracting data like biomass or tree cover requires deep GIS and Python knowledge, making it inaccessible for non-experts.
- The Solution: Users input natural language queries (e.g., "What is the carbon sequestration in Singapore since the COVID-19 pandemic?"). The agent uses LangChain and Gemini to parse location, timeframe, and intent.
- Data & Visualization: The system routes requests to GEE (e.g., Sentinel-2 imagery, biomass regression models) and streams results back to a dashboard with map overlays and time-series charts.
The project aims to democratize access to climate tech and satellite data, and is currently open-source on GitHub.
