Musk: Optimus Will Be the Biggest Product Ever, But Scaling Production Is Tesla's Hardest Challenge
XFreeze · x · 2026-07-23
Elon Musk stated that Optimus will be the biggest product ever, but creating an autonomous humanoid robot that performs tasks simply via voice or video commands is an unprecedented challenge.
Beyond electromechanical design and dexterity, he emphasized that scaling production will be Tesla's most substantial hurdle. Because almost every component in the robot is new, the high ratio of novelty directly complicates the manufacturing ramp-up. He also joked about the need for extreme reliability, noting that otherwise, "you have a 70-kilogram robot that has flopped over, and now you have to carry it like a body."
