Microsoft is offering voluntary buyouts to up to 60,000 employees across the US, UK, Canada, and India. Chief People Officer Amy Coleman framed it as a chance to "leave Microsoft with financial support and career planning resources" as the company trims headcount without another round of layoffs.
Eligible teams include AI experiences, Copilot, CoreAI, Windows + Devices, Xbox, finance, and HR; cloud + AI and MicrosoftAI teams are partially participating, while marketing, commercial business, quantum, and security teams are not. The offer comes just months after Microsoft laid off 4,800 employees, mostly in Xbox and commercial sales, and Fortune reports Xbox CEO Asha Sharma is planning further cuts.
