AMD and Anthropic sign a multibillion-dollar chip deal for 2 gigawatts of compute

AMD and Anthropic have signed a multi-year chip deal worth tens of billions of dollars, with Anthropic set to deploy up to 2 gigawatts of AMD’s MI450 accelerators starting in the first half of 2027. AMD may also invest up to $5 billion in Anthropic as deployment milestones are reached.
The deal covers a mix of Anthropic-owned data centers and leased capacity through cloud and neocloud providers. Anthropic’s demand has grown enough that it has limited usage and seen outages, making compute expansion a near-term bottleneck.
Lisa Su says large-scale compute planning must happen 12–24 months in advance.
