Chrome Extension Estimates ChatGPT Conversation Limits
Goat_bless · reddit · 2026-07-18
A developer created a Chrome/Edge extension to estimate how close the current ChatGPT conversation is to its "actual maximum length."
Features include a clean usage bar that reveals estimated token count, conversation nodes, tool messages, hidden messages, file count, and the detected model. All calculations are done locally without sending chat data to external servers.
The estimation is experimental, calibrated using a Plus account with nearly full conversations. Currently, Free tier estimates are calculated at ×0.455 of Plus, and Pro at ×2.136. Free or Pro users who hit the conversation limit can run the extension and submit stats to help refine the thresholds.
