Open Dungeon Master: open-source AI Dungeon Master app hits Play Store, runs 5e on a 16GB GPU
lebbi · reddit · 2026-10-27
Solo developer lebbi released Open Dungeon Master on Google Play (plus a PC client) after 7 months of work, born from wanting a 5e roleplay experience with local AI that no existing app provided.
Key features:
- Solo and multiplayer campaigns; the AI DM doesn't get lost, sidetracked, or stuck in loops
- A workshop for creating your own world content
- Full 5e ruleset runs on a single 16GB GPU — no expensive hardware or cloud fees required
- Works with any cloud AI provider; also a human-DM mode with no AI at all
- Auto-creates a secure tunnel with invite codes for friends; campaign data stays on your device
Built with Claude Code, Codex, and some local Qwen, with heavy community contributions. The author runs GPT-OSS 20B on a BC250 as narrator plus a separate image-generation server; many users just plug in existing Codex/Claude Code subscriptions. Open source; v1.0.0 stable is near.
