Google Docs and Drive add native Markdown support for human-AI collaboration
thisiskp_ · x · 2026-10-27
Google Workspace officially announced native .md support in Drive and Docs: preview rendered Markdown directly in Drive, open and edit files in Docs with real-time collaboration, all without format conversion, with a visible .md badge in the header.
Google frames the feature around human-agent collaboration: Markdown is the structured format widely used by LLMs and a shared language readable by both humans and AI, making Docs a bridge where teammates and autonomous agents co-edit the same documents. The company also noted that Markdown file usage in Drive has surged year-over-year.
