Claude Code Introduces Background Routines
EAccelerate_42 · x · 2026-07-16
Anthropic Applied AI Engineer Maya shared two key insights:
- Since the beginning of the year, the weekly volume of PRs generated by Claude Code has grown by 200%.
- Documentation engineers have ironically become the busiest, as automation has drastically increased the sheer volume of submissions.
To address this, they built Routines: coding agents that listen to GitHub events and execute tasks automatically in the background, even when your computer is offline. The accompanying 22-minute video focuses heavily on automation layer practices, followed by a deep dive into AI failure modes within brownfield codebases.
