How I let my cloud Grok Bot code on my Mac mini via Tailscale, no public ports
talkaboutdesign · x · 2026-10-27
A hands-on thread on wiring a cloud Grok Bot to code on a local Mac mini: install Tailscale on the Mac and have the bot join the tailnet (private, no open ports), expose T3 Code's MCP endpoint over the Tailscale address, authorize the bot via OAuth pairing with a 30-day token, restrict it to launching coding threads only (no repo adds/clones), and test — T3 spun up Claude in a separate worktree, indexed the codebase in 15s, and flagged missing sitemap/robots.txt/RSS. The author made "all coding goes through T3, never cloud agents" a standing rule bots follow, with fallback to stop-and-report if the Mac is unreachable. Your agent doesn't need your machine on the public internet, just your tailnet.
