1Password Launches Agents Platform Letting AI Log In Without Seeing Passwords
On October 22, password management company 1Password launched a new platform for AI agents, "1Password for Agents," and announced the same day that its ARR has surpassed $500 million. The new product tackles the core trust problem when AI agents act on a user's behalf: the agent can log into and use websites for you, but never sees your password.
Confirmed
- Workflow: when an agent reaches a login page, it sends a request to 1Password along with a unique digital key; once the user approves, 1Password automatically fills in the password or performs the corresponding login action, and the agent never touches the real credentials (consistent accounts from @dotey, @AndrewSchmidtFC, and @shashib)
- The platform can connect one or more of a user's personal AI agents, protecting credentials while the agent carries out tasks (@testingcatalog)
- Partners and integrations include Meta's Muse, Anthropic's Claude, OpenAI's ChatGPT Work, and several companies such as SpaceX (@testingcatalog, @m4)
- Enterprise scenario: once an employee approves an agent login, the record can become a corporate record (@shashib)
- The company also announced the same day that its ARR has passed $500 million (@shashib)
Why it matters
As personal AI agents begin performing cross-site tasks on users' behalf, credential exposure has become one of the biggest security risks blocking the Agent ecosystem. 1Password steps in as a "password custody intermediary," decoupling authentication from the agent side, providing infrastructure-level trust for agent commercialization, and extending the password manager's role into the AI era.
