Chollet Rejects Claims That Current AI Models Are Conscious

Keras creator François Chollet published a long essay calling claims that current AI models are conscious and can suffer "absurd and offensive," arguing that computation-based arguments for machine consciousness are as hollow as saying rocks are alive because they're made of atoms. He warned against mathematically quantifying AI suffering to weigh it against human interests, adding that while understanding consciousness is a valid research aim, creating artificial consciousness should not be a goal.
