Ex-Continue Co-founder Publishes "Superdark Factory" Paper in MIT Press Journal

After Continue's acquisition, co-founder Tyler Dunn's next move is revealed: the paper "The Superdark Factory: Toward the Full Automation of Software," co-authored with Disintegrator, was published September 10 in MIT Press's Antikythera journal, with the full text available on the journal's site. The paper proposes an extreme form of software production—the "superdark factory"—and is worth industry attention for its predictions about software engineering in the agent era.

Confirmed

• The paper was co-authored by Tyler Dunn and Disintegrator, published September 10 in MIT Press's Antikythera journal, and is readable in full on the journal's website.
• Tyler Dunn is the co-founder of Continue (continuedev) after its acquisition; his destination was previously unknown.
• The paper predicts 35T agent tokens consumed monthly by 2029.
• Its core concept is a "superdark factory": self-driven, self-directing in its goals, recursively self-optimizing, with internal logic too fast for humans to understand—effectively a company with no one inside.
• The paper details the four principles of the dark stack (mentioned in posts but not elaborated; see the original text).

Why it matters

• Written from the perspective of a frontline AI coding-tool founder, it systematically depicts an end-state of full software automation, and its quantified forecast of agent-driven compute demand (35T agent tokens per month by 2029) is a useful reference for industry planning.
• The "dark stack" concept challenges prevailing notions of observable, understandable tech stacks and raises the fundamental question of the human role in an era of autonomous agents.
