Antikythera's 'superdark factory': the fully automated, self-optimizing firm

tylerjdunn · x · 2026-09-10

A multi-author essay in Antikythera Journal imagines the most extreme possible factory: one that drives itself, sets its own objectives, and recursively optimizes to achieve them — a fully automated firm with no people inside.

Marek Poliks, Roberto Alonso Trillo, Tyler Dunn and others call it the 'superdark factory': its internals churn too fast to comprehend, its logics branch too densely to reconstruct, and its performance standards are too ephemeral to direct. The authors argue such a factory could be built today with existing tools, and explore what it would mean to steer or govern it.
