Director Neill Blomkamp Releases AI Short, Launches Studio
Director Neill Blomkamp has released NIGHTBORNE, his first fully AI-generated 13-minute test short film. This marks his transition from years of AI experimentation to creating a more complete cinematic work, with the full video now available on YouTube.

The short film was made entirely using the Seedance 2.0 model and has been described by Blomkamp as his first complete AI film test. He revealed that the characters were not purely fabricated, but were portrayed using real actors and talent, with human concept designers also involved in the production process.
Future Plans and Aesthetic Vision
Alongside the short film, Blomkamp announced the launch of his AI film studio, Barely Studios. Through this studio, his next step is to develop a feature film project. Furthermore, by sharing striking sci-fi concept art, he hinted at the future visual direction of AI cinema: compared to the polish of traditional Hollywood, the aesthetics of AI-generated films may become much weirder, grittier, and more intense.
