Open-Source Image-to-3D Still Lags Closed Models, Trellis and Pixal3D Tests Fall Short
Realistic_Rabbit5429 · reddit · 2026-11-08
A Reddit user reports that running Trellis and Pixal3D image-to-3D workflows in ComfyUI about a month ago produced results that were conceptually cool but not actually usable, far behind closed-source options.
They note that ChatGPT pointed to recent updates — SUPRA-Tex, Asset Furnace, and Hi3D v1.0 — which appear to build on Trellis, Pixal3D, and Hunyuan3D, but combine multiple models across different pipeline stages.
The poster has not tested these yet and asks the community whether the combined pipelines are a real improvement over standard Trellis/Pixal workflows, what people currently recommend, and whether any SOTA open-source image-to-3D releases are on the horizon.
