Why go to conferences when AI reads and writes the papers? A UIST researcher's reflection
plopesresearch · x · 2026-11-08
Masahiko Inami reflects on academic conferences in the AI era: as an Associate Chair he saw widespread AI-hallucinated citations (HalluCitation), researchers acting as free LLM verification machines, and the rise of a 'conference of AI, by AI, for AI'. He argues for human-scale conferences where new research questions take shape before papers exist, and welcomes AI as one reviewer so humans can focus on improving authors' work.
