AI layoff gamble backfires: Meta rehires managers, 90% of execs see no productivity gains
Hesamation · x · 2026-11-08
Per The Guardian, companies that rushed to replace workers with AI are cleaning up the mess: Meta scaled back staff cuts after employees spent growing time fixing agents' technical and security errors and is rehiring managers; Microsoft and McKinsey are limiting employee AI use as costs pile up; Walmart workers say AI scheduling tools set impossible standards and generate false alerts.
The data backs it up: an Atlanta Fed working paper finds 90% of executives say AI hasn't boosted productivity yet, while over 112,000 US job cuts this year cited AI (Challenger data). Hesamation quips the outcome was "absolutely unpredictable, except by everyone."
