Whitney Museum AI performance: the model can't 'see' dying flowers
heatherknight · x · 2026-11-08
Artist Addie Wagenknecht performs Shelf Life at NYC's Whitney Museum on Nov 16: when pointed at three bouquets, the AI — having no category for death — stops detecting the wilting flowers and confidently keeps seeing only the vase.
The piece critiques longevity culture's refusal to face ageing and death. It accompanies her 2017 Whitney commission Believe me, shown in the exhibition artport: A History of Internet Art (Nov 21, 2026 – Mar 28, 2027).
