OpenAI Buys Pierre to Give Codex a Home for Agent-Written Code
shashib · x · 2026-11-08
OpenAI agreed on November 4 to acquire Pierre Computer Company, the startup behind Code Storage and the open-source Trees and Diffs libraries that power file navigation and change review inside Codex. Terms undisclosed; the deal awaits regulatory approval.
Context: two days earlier, OpenAI described Pando, its in-house source-control backend. Quarterly commits to its monorepo are projected to grow over 2,400% from Q1 2024 to end of 2026, and Git backend reliability had slipped below 90% before Pando. Pando's core was designed by one engineer and implemented in Rust by Codex agent teams in 10 weeks, entering production in April. The deal raises a bigger question: where will agent-written code be stored and reviewed?
