Y Combinator method turns 4 weeks of GTM research into 3 hours with raw data and contrarian prompts

A thread reposted by YC partner Garry Tan describes a Y Combinator-taught method that compresses 4 weeks of go-to-market research into about 3 hours using LLMs.
Step 1 — feed raw material, not vague prompts: scrape 25-40 competitor websites (pricing, case studies, docs), pull recent earnings calls from the 3-5 biggest incumbents, gather 100+ customer reviews (G2, Capterra, Trustpilot, app stores), and collect every Reddit/forum thread where users vent about the category.
Step 2 — ask questions that force thinking, not summarizing: e.g. "What do the winners in this market know that their customers would never admit?" and "List beliefs the industry takes for granted; for each, what would need to happen for it to be false?"
In 20 minutes you can map consensus, industry blind spots, and unserved customer pains, then stress-test your best angle against them.
