After Tristan Hume published his tier list of top YouTube channels, Karpathy one-shotted TristanTube with Claude Code in 3 minutes: 47K super nerdy videos plus a TV mode for laid-back watching.
His earlier weekend hack HackerTube went further: Claude filtered 43M HN comments spanning 20 years down to 6,454 repeatedly-recommended videos, replacing YouTube's own recommendations — no login needed (state kept in local browser session), thumbnails taken from a representative mid-video frame instead of A/B-test-optimized uploads, and the underlying data shipped as a zip so anyone can point Claude at it to build their own version. Built in 2 hours with Opus 5.5.
