PJM data: data-center demand drove a minority of 2026 power cost hikes; electricity itself rose 47.7%
kimmonismus · x · 2026-11-07
Citing Monitoring Analytics (July 2026), kimmonismus notes PJM wholesale power costs in H1 2026 were $114.50/MWh vs $103.40 without data-center-driven capacity costs — a minority of the increase. Most of the year-over-year rise came from the cost of electricity itself, up 47.7%. The EIA's October outlook also attributes higher 2026 wholesale prices mainly to weather events (winter storm, summer heat), not data centers.
