AI coding widens the engineer gap: average users vs power users is night and day
bendee983 · x · 2026-11-07
Responding to theo's claim that AI has stretched the engineer gap from 10x to 100x, bendee983 argues AI gives everyone superpowers — every average user prompting Claude Code or Codex now feels like a developer. But watching experienced engineers work reveals how significant the gap remains. He wouldn't put it at 100x (too many agents hits diminishing returns), but average vs power AI users is night and day.
One caveat: being an experienced engineer doesn't automatically make you a power AI user — it still takes experimentation to get the best out of coding agents while maintaining agency and control over the process.
