LlamaIndex says the world needs two types of document OCR: liteParse for speed, OCRIA-1 for accuracy
llama_index · x · 2026-11-07
Jerry Liu argues orgs need two OCR layers: fast/cheap first-pass tools (pypdf, pymupdf, and LlamaIndex's open-source liteParse, now integrating 5 open-weight OCR engines including MiniCPM-OCR) for trillions of docs feeding agent retrieval, plus accurate VLM-based parsing (OCRIA-1, powering LlamaParse) for complex critical documents. More coming in this space.
