Claude 5.5 paints watercolors via robot arm, notably without proprietary robot datasets
teortaxesTex · x · 2026-11-07
dhvanil demoed a watercolor-painting robot arm driven by Claude: the model now has a larger repertoire of brush strokes and new titration tricks, and Opus composed and painted "Leeward" — an autumn tree leaning into wind — on a Franka Emika Panda arm.
teortaxesTex notes Claude 5.5 isn't conspicuously better at driving this specific arm, suggesting Anthropic hasn't yet bought the dataset OpenAI and Google used for Astra, 6.1 Sol and Argon — making the demo more impressive. Charts compare IK error and multiple-choice performance across OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek, Qwen, Kimi and GLM models on the real Panda arm.
