nsaphra · x · 2026-11-07
OpenReview data shows Interpretability/XAI has the lowest average review score (1.92) among ICLR 2027 first submissions, versus 2.06 overall and 2.15 for Generative Models; only 2.8% of interp papers score ≥3. The poster hypothesizes training-free interp research is easier to mass-produce with AI, lowering the quality floor, while scaling/training work requiring serious compute is harder to fake.
