OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar addressed community concerns about data centers on CNBC:
- Electricity: She promised OpenAI will "never raise your electricity bill" and said the company often works with utilities to help invest in the grid.
- Water: A large data center footprint typically uses about 2 Olympic swimming pools' worth of water, trucked in and recirculated like a car radiator — "it doesn't really get lost." She added most water goes to the people working there.
- Noise: She cited plans for a 300-foot high berm around a Georgia data center to control noise after talking to the local community.
